Financial Capability - A Big Lottery Fund Project

Big Lottery Fund

Long Term Strategy
The focus of this project is on long term achievement to ensure that financial literacy is consistently delivered inside Burton on Trent long after the life of the project. This aim is to be achieved through the development of a consortium, consisting of a range of agencies from Burton on Trent to encourage partnership working. The aim of this consortium will be to devise a strategy that will be implemented across Burton on Trent. The first consortium meeting was held at the Branston Golf Club on 26th July 2006.

Training

This long term strategy will be primarily implemented through the training of partner agencies staff. If successful, spotting financial literacy needs and offering support and coaching will become a task of all partner agencies and not just the bureau. This way more needs can be identified and the more minor literacy needs can be dealt with by the partner agency as opposed to by the bureau. The project will also train agency user groups, school sixth forms and offer one-to-one mentoring on a referral basis. The training of agencies and their users commenced September 2006.

The future of this project is ambitious. It requires gettingAnna Hall our Financial Capability Officer other community agencies on board and close partnership working, but success will bring Burton onTrent a long term strategy that will ultimately affect the amount of debt clients we see in the bureau, an exciting prospect!!
