When I flew to the US recently I was singled out for special attention when I checked in and treated as if I was a potential suicide bomber. the whole episode was frightening and humilating. I'm due to travel by air again soon - what should I do if this happens again?

A With airport security tighter than ever before, a lot of people feel they are being treated with suspicion, and in some cases insulted or harassed, just because of the way they look, their ethnicity or their faith. You shouldn't have to put up with abuse, and anyone conducting checks should do so with sensitivity and courtesy.
